Clodagh’s star continues to rise with AIMS award

Enniskillen’s rising star Clodagh Sweeney has taken home top a theatre award.
The musical theatre performer has been awarded for her portrayal of the character Maureen in Fermanagh Musical Theatre’s 2023 production of ‘Rent.’
The AIMS (Association of Irish Musical theatre societies) send out adjudicators to each show to review the on-stage performances, the adjudicator will then nominate the exceptional performers for awards.
Ms Sweeney, recently secured a place in Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance London to study musical theatre, and was delighted to attend the award ceremony.
“It was such a surreal night! Being in a room with so many talented performers was such an honour and I felt so lucky to be there. Everyone was so supportive of each other and I met so many fabulous people,” Clodagh said.
Clodagh was blown away to be nominated for the award and couldn’t believe when her name was called on the night.
“I never felt a more out of body experience than when my name was called out for the award, I couldn’t believe it! Standing on that stage was already enough for me, so being handed the trophy was something totally out of this world, especially for a role like Maureen in a show as powerful as Rent.
“To have my mum in the audience was so special. My family encouraged me to audition for my first show when I was a very shy child, so to have come all this way with their continued support and love meant the world to me,” she said.
Clodagh is thankful to Fermanagh Musical Theatre for giving her the role and she dedicates the award to them..
“Every single member of the cast, crew and production team of Rent deserved to be on that stage with me. Their determination, talent and sheer passion for their craft was simply unmatched. You can’t put on a show without every part of the machine and that’s why this award means so much to me. It’s for them!”
