Fermanagh music stars to headline at Donegal festival

THERE will be plenty of Fermanagh flavour at the hugely popular Clonmany Festival which is set to attract thousands of Country music fans to the Donegal venue next month.

The Tumbling Paddies are set to kick off the Clonmany Festival on Sunday, August 4, on the opening night of the much-anticipated Country music extravaganza.

Country music star Derek Ryan, who now lives in Enniskillen, has been confirmed as one of the main performers at the Clonmany Festival on the fourth day, Wednesday, August 7.

Ryan recently launched a new single which saw him collaborate with one of Ireland’s longest serving and most established céilí bands.

The Fermanagh resident recently teamed up with the legendary and hugely popular ‘Kilfenora Céilí Band’ on his new song, ‘In Between The Jigs & The Reels’.

Ryan’s collaboration with the ‘Kilfenora Céilí Band’, which was founded in 1909 in Clare, has gone down a treat with his large and ever-growing music fan base.

“[It was] lovely being involved in this song with the wonderful Derek Ryan. Great fun recording and meeting Derek. Best of luck with it,” said a spokesperson for the ‘Kilfenora Céilí Band’.

The Fermanagh singer recently confirmed that he’s dedicating one of his new tracks, ‘The Flower’, to his mother who passed away almost six years ago.

“I’ve written a song about my mammy, Sally, who passed away back in 2018,” Ryan told ‘RSVP Country’ in a recent interview at the Lough Erne Resort.

“The song is from the perspective of going back home after some time and someone’s gone. I feel anyone who has lost someone could relate to it.

“I called the song The Flower, we haven’t recorded it yet as I wrote it just a few weeks ago, but we played it live so it’s something that the audience has never heard before,” he added.

Meanwhile, Nathan Carter has also been named as one of the performers at the Clonmany Festival on Thursday, August 8.

The Liverpudlian, who has set up home with Bellanaleck, has recently released a new collaboration with Fermanagh-based band ‘Tully’.

“’Tully’ are all great musicians and their harmonies are fantastic. Now that their families are at an independent stage they’re going back performing with full force,” Carter told the ‘Sunday World’.

“They’re recording a new album at the moment and are absolutely buzzing and thrilled to be back having a second shot at life in the world of entertainment.”
