McQuade relieved to come through a nervous finish

Fermanagh ladies captain Shannan McQuade felt “relief” as her team vanquished past disappointments to secure a hard-fought victory over Limerick, earning their spot back in the All-Ireland Junior final.

Twelve months on from their defeat to Limerick at this stage, and after league semi-final heartbreak at the hands of Carlow in-between, this time Fermanagh could celebrate a return to Croke Park.

A resolute defensive display in the dying moments ensured they got over the line, with McQuade highlighting the importance of learning from those experiences.

“During the league, we did well, then got to a semi-final and kind of choked; probably this time last year against Limerick in the same place we choked, so we had that experience of being in a semi-final and not getting over the line,” recalled McQuade.

“We’d done so well in the group stages of the Championship that we just needed to get past that semi-final, and we didn’t let what happened before, happen again.
