Fermanagh manager Pete McGrath believes Congress have, “Taken a sledge hammer to kill the proverbial fly,” with the decision to force counties to name their sides by 9am Thursday ahead of championship matches.
“We had an example today,” said McGrath after Fermanagh’s four point victory over Tipperary. “Our sub goalie couldn’t be here today because on Friday night his grandfather died, the funeral was today, so you can imagine a situation where something like that happens, what do you do? I think it’s very inflexible.
“I know there’s some managers that put out teams that bear no resemblance to the starting 15 and there should be some kind of stipulation or sanction that can apply there, but in the case of having to make one change I think they’ve taken a sledge hammer to kill the proverbial fly.”
