Ballinamallard United face Belfast’s big two in the next couple of week’s with a trip to the Oval first up.
Buoyant manager Whitey Anderson is delighted with his side’s run of form of late having picked up 13 points from a possible 24 in the league.
“We’re on a decent run and if we could we could go on a run like that for the rest of the season wwe would certainly be well placed. I’m happy enough with our overall form,” he said.
He went on to say that eight weeks ago his side were beaten by Warrenpoint and propped up the Danske Premier League table.
“Now we are ten points clear of them, so it shows a massive improvement in those weeks,” said Anderson.
“We want to keep looking up the table, but we have never beaten Glentoran over 90 minutes. I see it as a chance to beat Glentoran and get three points to get closer to the teams above us,” he said.
“Since that Warrenpoint game two month ago we’ve really started to play a bit, even though we’ve lost to Portadown, Cliftonville and just last week to Ballymena with a poor performance.
“But when you look at our squad last week we were without Kee, Lafferty and McCartney and they are big players,” he said. “We have them back this week to add to the players who performed so well against Warrenpoint.”
Anderson knows Glentoran will be a tough ask.
“We have a good record up there even though we haven’t won. There is a great buzz in the camp at the minute and more players are becoming available. Everyone is competing for places now and everybody has a real hunger. The league is still the most important thing for us,” said Anderson.
Anthony Elding played the final few minutes on Friday night after returning and looks likely to get a run out with the Reserves to bring him back to fitness, while McCartney, Kee and Lafferty should all be back on first team duty at the Oval.
Anderson knows it will be a hard month with 12 games in eight weeks.
“It is good that we are going well. The boys don’t mind the games when confidence is good. We’re all together for this imporant period.”
All eyes are on the Glentoran game though to see if the Ferney Park boys can take something away from the Oval on Saturday.
