Beauty Blog: The Ju-Tox detox

Beauty blog Ju Tox

THE AIM of detoxifying the body is to rid it of all toxins, kick-start a healthy diet and is perfect for a  health and beauty boost.

It can alleviate a number of health problems, from weight gain, feeling sluggish, bloating and poor skin.
Last week, I started my ‘cleansing’ process in preparation for a number of things, firstly and most importantly, for my sister’s wedding in Croatia. As I have said in previous blogs I try to follow a healthy lifestyle, but I do uffer from bloating and acne-proneskin so I enrolled in a three day juice detox – Ju-Tox – in an attempt to ease both conditions.

The Ju-Tox detox comes in a three and five day package comprising of four juices to take everyday. The thumb of rule is that food is not allowed during the detox, nor caffeine or fizzy drinks. As daunting as that sounds it’s part and parcel of the ‘cleansing’ process and as the information leaflet states – no one said it is going to be easy, but it will be worth it.

I collected my 12 juices which also come with a lemon and lime to mix in with my many glasses and bottles of water. These really helped with the detoxing process, tasted good, helped speed up metabolism and curbed hunger pains.
The first of my juices – aptly named Lean Green – is full of the best of all green foods. It includes kale, spinach, kiwi, pear, lime, apple and pineapple. The combination of these fruit and vegetables creates a very tasty and satisfying juice which is great for a healthy digestive system, boosts immune system and is packed with vitamins and minerals. I take this juice twice a day – one at either 8am or 9am and again at either 2pm or 3pm.

My second juice of the day – taken at around 12pm – is the Orange Booster which contains carrot, ginger and lemon. Carrots are said to be one of the top detoxifiers of the vegetable world and this juice is a great remedy for fluid retention, sluggishness and all-round feeling of tiredness. A very refreshing drink and the garlic gives a great kick to the juice.

Lastly, my 6pm juice was the Blueberry Blast. This juice, being my favourite, contains blueberries, pineapple, strawberry, raspberries and apple making it a great antioxidant drink.

It is said to soothe the digestive system and improve brain function.

It is recommended that you take a juice every 3.5 hours at times suited to your lifestyle. I preferred taking mine at about 8.30/9am with a glass of hot water and lemon. This helped stem hunger until my second juice.

This detox is a difficult but worthwhile challenge which tests your mentality and discipline levels. Surprisingly, I wasn’t hungry during the three-day process, but I did crave food and not eating solid food was tough. The secret to the success of this detox is drinking plenty of water. I always had a bottle of water at hand as it helped curb hunger, headaches and tiredness.

At the end of my detox I felt refreshed and lighter, though at times I felt slightly tired, but I achieved what I set out for – skin is clearer and stomach has deflated.

This detox is not a solution to a long-term problem but more a kick-start to a more healthier self.

The cost of the three-day juice is £65, while the five-day is £97.
