Catherine McCurry enjoyed an evening of relaxation at Le Spa, Corick House

IT’S always essential to wind down at the end of hard working week to help ease the stress and strains that go hand-in-hand with our daily lives.

And with the opening of Le Spa in Corick country house hotel, there was no better way to unwind than a visit to the hotel’s new spa facilities.

Set in beautiful country surroundings and inspired by French design, the spa has a strong emphasis on the curative nature of water combined with the expertise of therapeutic touch.

The first stop of the visit was to the Serenity Suite, which is exactly that. The facility is a fabulous private retreat fit for a couple or a group booking. Visitors have exclusive use of the relaxation space, which also comes with your very own outdoor hot tub and steam chamber. A mud treatment is also supplied which helped detoxify my skin all over.

A light lunch consisting of sandwiches and small deserts with a glass of sparking wine helped me fully relax into my stay. The best part of this is how private the suite is, making it perfect for a couple or a small group of friends catching up. The high standard of service from Louise McQuade ensured our needs were catered to.

Following this, we were taken to the Thermal Suite which compromises of a hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room, thermal lounger and experience shower.

The low-lighting surrounding the hydrotherapy pool area is very calming while the steam and sauna room is perfect for replenishing skin and clogged pores.

The ambience throughout the whole spa helps visitors feel at home which helped my friend – who had never been to a spa and felt slightly uneasy walking around in a bathrobe – settle into the entire experience.

This was then followed by a sixty minute purifying facial which is specifically developed for impure skin with a tendency to develop acne.

Purifying leaves the skin fresh and moisturized and is said to prevent and reduce excess sebum, shiny skin and dilated pores.

The formula features active ingredients with Azelgycine, extract of Black Pepper and Plant Oils, that works on bacteria responsible for skin alterations. After experiencing a bad acne week, my skin was in desperate need of an intense cleanse.

And just two days later my skin is looking healthier and the appearance of ance has been reduced.

Le Spa also has a French therapy treatment which is the first of its kind for the North. The Vichy Shower treatment has gentle soothing rain which cascades from seven suspended shower heads in this classic body delight.

The hydro-therapeutic jets can be intensified to deliver a deeper massage to enhance circulation. This treatment is the ultimate in cleansing and it’s also very health inducing as it stimulates the lymphatic system and aids in all over body hydration.

One of the treatments used for the Vichy Shower is the Waterfall Massage. This is a sensory journey where the therapist delivers a full body massage using pressure and Swedish massage techniques whilst warm jets target tension areas.

Unfortunately, every journey has to come to an end but not before spending some time in the deep relaxation room where we tucked into a refreshing strawberry sorbet, fruit juices and a selection of herbal teas.

If only every Friday can be as relaxing.
