Sports Personality Brendan Dolan has month to remember

Brendan Dolan Fermanagh Herald November Sports awards winner

HIS BEST year yet is how Brendan Dolan described 2013 – and the Belcoo thrower been recognised for November, as he picks of the Fermanagh Herald ‘Sports Personality of the Month’ award.

In October, he finished runner-up in the Dutch Masters, but more success was to come his way weeks later.

On November 2, he won the Players Championship 13 in Wigan, when he defeated emerging star Rick Evans, 6-3.
And, within the space of three weeks, he won his second ProTour title after a 6-1 victory over Jamie Robinson in the final of the last Players Championship of 2013 at the Barnsley Metrodome.

“November was a good month for me personally,” said Brendan this week.

“I won my first ranking tournament, and a couple of weeks later I followed it up with another one as well. That was very pleasing, and it was a great feeling to get over the winning line,” he said.

“In October in the Dutch masters I was beaten in the final – around that time I had been training very well.”
And, the ‘History Maker’, described 2013 as the best one yet.

“To be honest, it’s been my best year. I was in another four finals as well which is pretty good going considering the standard is there now. I finished at number 14 in the world, which means every year I’m improving and getting better and moving up the rankings.”

He is staying positive as he moves into the new year.

“For this year I’d hope to stay on the winning habit, a few more wins on the floor and maybe to get a TV major win. My aim is always to keep moving up the rankings and never go back or fall down the rankings. I haven’t done that yet and hopefully 2014 I’ll move into the top 10.”
