BALLINAMALLARD UNITED have confirmed that Chris Curran has signed for Cliftonville ahead of the new Premiership season.

In a statement, the club said: “The club can confirm that Chris Curran has decided not to commit his future to Ballinamallard United next season despite our best efforts to persuade him to follow the example of Mark Stafford, Davy Kee, Leon Carters and a number of other senior players who have all resisted the advances of other IFA Premiership clubs and preferred to stay at Ferney Park.”

Chris was a member of Brian Khan’s 1991s youth squad and his talent was recognised by Manchester United where he spent 2 years as a trainee and won the Premier Milk Cup in 2008.

He spent time at Portadown before signing under Whitey Anderson in July 2010.

The statement went on: “In total over the course of three seasons Chris scored 26 goals in just over 100 appearances for Ballinamallard United.

“Whitey has expressed his disappointment at Chris’s decision not to renew his contract and instead to leave for another Premiership club rather than buy in to the vision of Whitey and the other players to make Ballinamallard United an even stronger force in the Premiership next season.

“Nevertheless, Whitey recognises Chris’s desire to play for a club in Belfast, where he continues to be a student, and the attraction to go to another great club in Cliftonville the current Champions.

“Whitey and all of us at the club wish to thank Chris for his significant contribution to our success over the past 3 years and to wish him well at his new club.”
