SuperCupNI holds special memories for supporter Ronnie

FOR Fermanagh supporter Ronnie Kernaghan, whose son Tadhg is playing in his second tournament this year, SuperCupNI holds a special place for him having also played, albeit briefly, in the tournament itself.
He will be one of many Fermanagh supporters making an exodus from the county next week to watch wall to wall youth football at the SuperCup on the north coast.
Several hundred youth football fans and family relatives are expected at the north coast for the feast of football with the county’s Premier and Junior sides
“It was such an amazing feeling to represent my county at the time” recalls Kernaghan. “However, unfortunately for me my playing time was short lived, as I ruptured my ACL in the first game!”.
While his time on the pitch was cut short, this hasn’t dampened the enthusiasm and passion that Kernaghan has for football in Fermanagh, with the family connection only strengthening this.
“I love how Fermanagh teams always give 110% effort, commitment and all players represent their county with pride. Fermanagh always punch above their weight against footballing giants and this year will be no different. To see my son Tadhg represent Fermanagh over the past two years also makes me immensely proud.”
Kernaghan also reflected on the camaraderie among Fermanagh supporters and families. “There’s an excellent bond among the supporter’s base, all underpinned by a universal desire to see the lads do well on the pitch. This lends itself to a great atmosphere at all the games.”
For Ronnie, as with many supporters, there is one game on everyone’s mind.
“I’m excited to see Fermanagh pit themselves against the mighty Red Devils. I come from a family of Manchester United supporters, and I hope to see my son potentially play against some of football’s future stars”.
As for his hopes and expectations for the Premiers specifically, Kernaghan simply wants the boys to do themselves proud.
“I hope they represent their county to their true potential and apply themselves with true passion, desire and achieve the results they deserve. I wish all the coaching staff, players and committee a very enjoyable week at SuperCupNI 2024.”
