New principal appointed at Fermanagh school

Bunscoil An Traonaigh, Lisnaskea has appointed one of Ireland’s youngest principals.

Caoimhe Green from Clones is the latest principal of the Irish school and will begin her journey as principal in September at the age of 25.

Caoimhe was in the first class to walk through the doors of the school 20 years ago when it opened and is excited to be coming back as the principal.

“I feel very, very blessed and excited to take on the role, it’s absolutely great to be back and supporting the school as much as possible, I am very blessed to be given the opportunity at such a young age,” Caoimhe explained.

Caoimhe will be working closely with the school over the summer to prepare for her start in the new school year.

“I am only coming into the role so I have a lot to take on and a lot to learn to make myself familiar with what is going on at the minute and I will be working very closely with the board of management, the school themselves and the staff to try and get to know everybody as much as possible before I start in September,” she said.

Sorcha Murphy has been principal of the school for the last 17 years and has seen the school grow as well as the Irish language.

“Since I have come to Fermanagh it (Irish language) is rocketing, it has really grown dramatically in the last four years but in the past 17 years I have seen a massive growth in it, we started out with 12 pupils and now we are up to more than 60,” said Sorcha.
