Clergy return for ‘Black Santa’ charity sit out

Rev Brian Harper and Rev John Beacom are sitting out for Christmas

CLERGY in Ballinamallard will be sitting out for 12 hours as Black Santa’s again this year.
The annual Christmas sit-out is planned for tomorrow, Wednesday, 20th December from 8am to 8pm led by Archdeacon Brian Harper, Rector of Magheracross Parish Church and Revd John Beacom, Minister of Ballinamallard Methodist Church.
Archdeacon Harper said: “Local businesses are very good to us and send over food to keep us going along with endless cups of tea, biscuits and soup from the parishioners. We wrap up warm and never have had a real soaking. We got into a little trouble a few years ago when the gazebo collapsed but we’re hoping for decent weather this time”.
The clergy will be wrapped up warm and waiting to receive donations throughout the day. This year the donations will be forwarded to Abaana Children’s Choir who visited Magheracross Parish during the year and the Northern Ireland Air Ambulance charity.
“We’ll take any money that comes, and every penny counts for the charities. We’ll have a good bit of banter with the passers-by on the day which makes the time go in a little quicker,” Archdeacon Harper added.
