THERE WERE no shortage of jobs up for grabs at the Fermanagh Herald Jobs Fair which attracted record numbers to South West College’s Enniskillen campus on Thursday last.
The jobs fair – now an annual event – is all about providing businesses with the opportunity to recruit local talent, while letting those in search of work to see what employers have to offer.
The fair showcased the quality of businesses in Fermanagh and also gave those looking for employment an opportunity to find out what vacancies are currently available. The fair was well attended with people of all ages visiting the different business stalls.
Lough Erne Resort were at the fair recruiting for six positions available within their luxury resort.
“We filled quite a few positions last year from this fair, and we have quite a few spaces available again this year so we are hoping to attract some interest to fill those vacancies. The resort is well known and quite attractive to people and they want to work at the property,” said Stephen Cox.
Management from another local hotel, the Slieve Russell Hotel, also attended the Fermanagh Herald Job Fair.
“We are looking for waiting staff, bar staff and a restaurant manager. Based on last year, we are confident we will fill the spaces and it is good to get the name out there and let people know that we are recruiting,” said Kelly Gilleece, Human resource manager at Slieve Russell Hotel.
Quinn Ltd also had a stall at the fair and were looking for ten people to fill vacancies within their company.
“We have positions for electricians, shift operators and administration. We have up to 10 positions within the three roles. We run graduate programmes and apprenticeship programmes, so we are recruiting for those positions and the other three roles,” said Caroline McCaffrey.
Also at the jobs fair and on the look out for new staff was Jim Masterson, manager of Erneside Shopping Centre, Enniskillen.
“Marks and Spencers have 20 jobs available at the minute, while there is about another 20 jobs spread across the shopping centre, within the different businesses. There is people who have advanced in their careers, and moved up a level so this has left space for new employees.
I think the retailers are realising that this is going to be a very busy year so they are getting the staff in early. Although the majority of the positions are temporary, because it gives the employer the chance to see how the new employees perform, what the opportunities are, and then plan for next year.”
