ULSTER Unionist MP Tom Elliot has made his inaugural speech at in the House of Commons in which he thanked the people of Fermanagh and South Tyrone who “took on a great challenge” to elect him.
Mr Elliott who unseated Sinn Fein’s Michelle Gildernew following last month’s General Election, spoke of his constituency during a debate on the EU referendum.
He said: “I want to pay tribute to the people of Fermanagh and South Tyrone who took on a great challenge to elect me. The voice of Fermanagh and South Tyrone hasn’t been heard in this place for the last 14 years. Over 65 years this constituency has changed from Nationalist to Unionist on no less than seven occasions.
“Last week I attended the commemoration of the 200 years anniversary of the Battle of the Waterloo. What a great privilege that was to remember the two great regiments that were raised in Enniskillen.”
