Fashion Focus: Snow joke trying to look stylish in this weather

Add some warmth with a fur gillet

Living in Fermanagh we should be well accustomed to dressing according to the weather. Let’s face it the number of wet, windy and dull days far outnumber the warm sunny days.

I personally have never let the weather hold me back from wearing what I want to wear and in fact I sometimes deliberately wear bright, summery colours on the dullest days just to cheer myself up a little and spread a little sunshine.

There is one thing I just can’t abide however and that is being cold. I cannot function when I am cold and this is the only occasion where I will choose a warm outfit over a stylish outfit just to be cosy.

When it’s cold I actually have to take time to think about what I could wear that’s both warm and stylish and if I don’t have time to think about it I just wear a warm jumper and jeans.

When you are between seasons and it’s not quite winter and not quite spring you’re fed up with last season’s winter woollies but it’s too cold to wear your new spring items what I often do is layer it up. Dresses can be teamed with thick tights and boots and warm cardigans. What I also like to do is wear a jumper over a dress, which not only creates a whole new outfit but also adds a warm layer. Fur gillets, which you probably wouldn’t get a lot of wear out of during any other season, are great for layering over long sleeve dresses and over thinner jumpers.

Some of spring summer 2015 trends have already started slowly filtering into the shops and replacing the dwindling sale items. If you want to give your winter woollies a spring kick you can start now by adding splashes of spring perhaps with a simple accessory. A military jacket for example will bring your look up to date while also adding a warm layer. You may not want to flounce around in a floral summer dress but you can throw a floral bag into the mix.

One big look of the summer that you can most definitely wear right now is the rock star scarf. Printed neck ties inspired by Liam and Noel Gallagher (but in a feminine way of course) will not only add an extra bit of warmth but will also help you to look spot on trend, add a pair of print ankle boots and your half way to summer 2015. I can feel the warmth already.
