Fashion Focus: The bump – The latest celeb trend

Kim Kardashian has come under fire for her fashion style whilst pregnant

Pregnancy seems to be the latest trend in the world of celebrities at the moment and it seems that everywhere we look another celebrity has been snapped wearing their newest accessory ‘the bump’ and looking as on trend as ever, not letting that bump get in the way of stepping out in this season’s hottest looks.

It’s not often you hear pregnant celebrities getting criticised for their choice of clothing in fact quite the opposite as they are nearly always used as examples for other stylish mums to be.

Quite recently however, a now very heavily pregnant Kim Kardashian, who is due to give birth in July, has been receiving quite a lot of criticism for her choice of outfits.

Any ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’ fans will know that Kim is fond of her figure hugging clothes and she rarely makes bad outfit choices however since becoming pregnant she has continued wear the same style of clothes that she always did including a number of very unforgiving low cut and sheer outfits which leave little to the imagination.

Don’t get me wrong she doesn’t always get her outfit choices wrong but sometimes I wonder if she has got dressed and forgotten that there is a huge bump in the way. Let’s face it flashing your thong to the world through a sheer dress isn’t classy in normal circumstances but especially not when you are seven months pregnant.

Everyone from Hollywood A-listers to pop stars, models and royalty is pregnant at the moment so never before have pregnant women been so spoilt for choice as to who to take style inspiration from. Even older mums to be can look to celebrities such as forty six year old Halle Berry, who shocked the world by announcing she is expecting her second baby later this year.

Despite being pregnant Halle Berry is currently in the middle of filming the latest X-Men movie and shows no signs of slowing down, despite concerns that this could potentially be a difficult pregnancy for her.

I couldn’t complete this article without mentioning Kate Middleton who, despite being nearly seven months pregnant, is still barely showing and as always looks effortlessly glamorous. Although Kate is what I would call a ‘safe dresser’ she knows her style, knows what suits her and doesn’t try to push boundaries try to be someone she isn’t. She will always stand out from the crowd and get noticed because of who she is so doesn’t need to change her classic sense of style to please others.

Of all the pregnant celebrities around at the moment I would have to say the most style conscious of them would have to be Coleen Rooney and singer Fergie. Coleen who is due to give birth in May has her own range of clothing so it is important for her to look good at all costs and inspire other future mums to take a pride in their appearance and know that you don’t have to wear unflattering baggy maternity clothes but that you can still wear this seasons latest trends without worrying about how to adapt them to fit around your bump.

Black Eyed Peas’ singer Fergie, who would usually have a very daring approach to fashion, is taking her first pregnancy in her stride and looks amazing. She is not afraid to wear bold prints, not going overboard or too brash with them and she is not afraid to experiment with bright colours, unlike a lot of mums to be who hide behind black.

Whatever the choice of outfit during pregnancy it is important to be comfortable and as some celebrity mums to be have shown this doesn’t mean sacrificing your love of fashion.
