On May 16, almost 70 years to the day, history repeated itself, when the children from Enniskillen Model School were visited by American soldiers and a special VIP.
On this occassion it was the Wartime Living History Association and the NI American Consul General Gregory Burton.
But on the 18th May 1944, it was General Eisenhower who made a secret wartime visit to the American Camp Breandrum beside the Model School, inspecting soldiers from the 28th Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division.
With the forthcoming visit of another American President to Enniskillen within the next few weeks, the children were extremely proud of the fact that Eisenhower made an historical visit to Camp Breandrum, beside their school.
