Canning hoping they can make it three on the trot

Ballinamallard United manager Tommy Canning praised his side’s ‘all-round top performance’ after they avenged the defeat to Welders in December by returning the favour on Saturday.

Forward Josh McIlwaine was the star of the show, scoring a hat-trick, and James McGrath followed up his winner against Ards with another quality finish, but the application of the entire squad delighted Canning.

“Josh (McIlwaine) will absolutely take the headlines and rightly so, it’s been a while since he’s claimed a hat-trick, so he should take all the plaudits,” said the Ballinamallard boss.

“But we spent a lot of last week preparing for Welders with a game plan that we developed and the players delivered it to a tee.
“We knew that if we squeezed up on them enough that we would get opportunities and that’s the way it played out.
