A spokesman for the Western Trust has confirmed that staffing shortages in Altnagelvin Hospital have impacted theatre capacities this week.
A spokesman said, “The Trust is currently experiencing issues with theatre staffing shortages in Altnagelvin Hospital and as a result not all theatres are running at capacity.
“In order to ensure the number of staff remain within agreed safe levels an average of ten theatres sessions per week are currently not providing their routine service. There is no particular theatre closed, as the down turn in sessions is divided between various disciplines. Emergency theatres, trauma theatre and labour ward are not affected.”
The Trust outlined, “There is no downturn in elective activity due to staffing issues at South West Acute Hospital or Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Complex.”
