Young blogger’s fundraising inspired by mother

An Irvinestown blogger whose mother was recently diagnosed with breast cancer is raising money for Macmillan.
Nicole Quigley launched her blog ‘Diet starts on Monday’ in May 2017, and has been sharing her weight loss journey on social media. Nicole’s mother was diagnosed with breast Cancer in July, and she has decided to use her blog to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Nicole is also organising free exercise meet-ups to encourage people to be healthy, and is hoping to hold an event in Fermanagh in the future.
Speaking to the Herald, Nicole said, “Anyone who has been through this with a family member or friend knows how horrible it is to get that news. My mother’s attitude has been relentlessly positive and I’m so proud of how strong she has been. I’d let things slip a bit with my diet and training and wanted to do a big push before Christmas so mum suggested using that to raise money for Macmillan.
It’s so important to keep your weight in check not just for your mental and emotional health, your confidence and your happiness but for your health.”
Macmillan provides physical, emotional and mental support to cancer sufferers and their families and Nicole believes ‘this needs to be applauded.’ Currently she has raised around £750 but aims to get past £1,500.
She thanked everyone for their support and said, “This has given my mum such a boost and I can’t tell you how many tears of joy have come from your messages and kind words. I know from the messages I’ve received that others are inspired and given a boost too, so to know I’m making any kind of difference means the world.
Macmillan help so many people with their cancer battle so if they can brighten someone’s day or make things a bit easier with some of the money that I’ve raised I’ll be one happy Quigley!”
