Thousands of homes nearly ready for the switch to gas

AFTER years of work and planning, thousands of homes in Fermanagh will be able to connect to the natural gas network in the near future.
SGN Natural Gas, one of the lead partners in the much-lauded Gas to the West project, has confirmed to the Herald “domestic connections are now imminent in Co Fermanagh.” The announcement comes after years of consultation, digging, and drilling across the county.
In recent times, specialist drilling work has been finished at Maguiresbridge, Trasna Island and Coolebrooke. Significant work has also been carried out in Enniskillen, particularly in the town centre where the gas works had to be finished ahead of the beginning of the upcoming public realm scheme.
Further work is expected next year but with hundreds of homes and businesses in Strabane already connected to the network, Fermanagh residents are being urged to get ready to potentially switch over.
“Now that natural gas will soon be available to homes in our initial key towns, we will be holding some information sessions which will be an opportunity for local residents to come along at their convenience and find out about the benefits of switching from their existing energy supply,” said David Young, head of business development at SGN Natural Gas.
“These sessions will have SGN Natural Gas team members present so that householders can find out about the exclusive connection offers we now have available.”
Mr Young added: “SGN Natural Gas would also like to take this opportunity to thank the public for their understanding during the construction phase of this major new energy infrastructure project. We are confident the benefits of natural gas will outweigh the temporary inconvenience to local residents and businesses.”
There will be an information session in Aughakillymaude Community Association, Derrylin on Monday, November 18th from 4pm-7pm. There will then be a further session in Fermanagh House, Enniskillen, on Thursday, November 21st, also from 4pm-7pm.
