AN ENNISKILLEN man who was smoking a cannabis joint when police called to his door has been fined.
Lee Carty (30) of Drumbawn Close, Drumclay pleaded guilty to possession of a Class B drug at Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday.
Police had called to Carty’s address at around 4.50pm on Saturday, September 29th. He was smoking a rolled up cigarette when he answered the door and the officers noted the smell of cannabis. Carty told the police he was smoking cannabis and apologised.
Defence solicitor Michelle McVeigh said Carty had been very forthright and very pragmatic in dealing with the police. She said the amount of cannabis was nominal amount, have a cigarette’s worth, and had been for his own personal use.
District Judge Michael Ranaghan said while it had been a second amount and Carty had admitted possession right away, it was his second conviction for cannabis. As such he fined him £175, and made a destruction order for the drugs.
