Roadworks to ease access to Cuilcagh ‘boardwalk’

DRIVERS using the Marble Arch Road in the Florencecourt area will continue to face disruption over the next week as much needed resurfacing works get underway.
Work began on the road on Monday, December 10th, and is due to continue until next Friday, December 21st. Around 1.8km of the road is being improved with strengthening and surface restoration, as well as skid resistance as part of the £150,000 project.
The road, which has been inundated with extra traffic in recent years due to the phenomenal popularity of the Cuilcagh Mountain Boardwalk, will continue to be closed from 8am until 5pm on weekdays, causing disruption to those commuting to work or going into town to do their Christmas shopping. A two-way diversion is in place via the Swanlinbar Road and Blunnick Road. The road will be open at weekends and evenings.
Diversionary routes will be clearly signed and local access for residents, businesses, emergency vehicles and school buses will be maintained at all times. The road will be open to traffic outside of working hours during the week and all day Saturday and Sunday.
To help ensure the safety of road users and road workers, the public is asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions and to drive with care when travelling through, or in the vicinity, of the works.
A spokesman for the Department of Infrastructure said the works were taking place at this time to reduce disruption as much as possible.
“Diversionary routes will be clearly signed and local access for residents, businesses, emergency vehicles and school buses will be maintained at all times. The road will be open to traffic outside of working hours during the week and all day Saturday and Sunday,” they said.
“To help ensure the safety of road users and road workers, the public is asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions and to drive with care when travelling through, or in the vicinity, of the works.”
