A YOUNG man who is accused of crashing into a number of cars and fled the scene in Belleek on Sunday morning has appeared in court.
Michael Kelly (22) of Silver Hill, Bundoran appeared at Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday facing several motoring offences including driving while unfit through drink or drugs, failing to remain, stop and report a damage only accident, using a motor vehicle without insurance and driving without a licence.
The court heard that on Sunday June 24th 2018 around 8.40am, police received reports that a Volkswagen Bora had crashed into several cars at the Glen Eden Hotel Belleek, and left the scene.
Police then received a further call that a black Volkswagen Bora that was significantly damaged was stopped on the road several miles away from the hotel.
When the police arrived they observed a man standing near the car, while Kelly was attempting to climb a fence into a field and was later found hiding in the field.
Applying for bail, defence solicitor Niall Bogue said that the defendant has an address in the South, but not in the North.
The court also heard that the co-accused in the case had been released on bail, and that Kelly could get bail if he supplied a suitable address or if he paid a surety. As part of the bail conditions, he must also attend Omagh Police Station on October 8th 2018 at 3pm.
