ONE OF Enniskillen’s oldest and best-known family businesses is changing hands.
Builders merchant, Robert Dickie & Sons Ltd is situated on Down Street in Enniskillen town centre and was first founded in 1924.
The family run business has been operated by Andrew Dickie, co-director with his cousin Leslie Dickie, who is now retiring. The business was purchased by Haldane Fisher, and going forward the business will continue to trade under the name Robert Dickie & Sons operating as a branch of Haldane Fisher.
Haldane Fisher is one of the leading independent suppliers to the construction industry in the UK and Ireland, serving both trade customers and the general public with 10 branches in the North and seven in the Isle of Man and England.
Predominantly a chain of builders and plumber’s merchants supplying a huge range of products – everything from building materials to plumbing and heating, home improvement products to internal finish such as kitchens, bathrooms, doors and floors.
The group also imports timber and timber products, and is a leading manufacturer of machined timber as well as engineered roofing.
News of the sale comes after last year’s takeover of another Enniskillen building suppliers firm FR Cathcart by Co Down firm Murdocks.
Andrew Dickie and Leslie Dickie said: “We are excited for Haldane Fisher to continue to grow and delighted to have the opportunity to work with them. We have found the Haldane family to be very fair and open. Robert Dickie & Sons Ltd has been a household name in the locality since our grandfather Robert Dickie founded the company in 1924.
“Our customers have been incredibly supportive of us in the past, as have our staff and I’m sure they will support Haldane Fisher in the future. I am very happy to be continuing to work within Robert Dickie & Sons with the Haldane family.”
David Haldane, managing director of Haldane Fisher in Northern Ireland was delighted with the addition of the new site in Enniskillen saying: “Robert Dickie & Sons is an extremely well-run and well-known business in Enniskillen.
“It has been a pleasure to work with Andrew Dickie to bring the business on board.
“We want to continue to build on the work that Andrew, Leslie and the team have done over the last 40 years.
“We look forward to continuing to offer a good service to the local area and beyond.
“We have no doubt that we can take Robert Dickie & Sons to the next level and offer both new and existing customers a wide range of products available, in stock, ready for when they need them.”
