Marshall Clarke and Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari got their Ford Fiesta home safely in Spain.

Marshall Clarke and Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari got their Ford Fiesta home safely in Spain.

Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari and his Fermanagh co-driver Marshall Clarke picked up valuable WRC2 points in Spain’s Rally RACC Catalunya at Costa Daurada ahead of this week’s Wales Rally GB.

The pair brought their Ford Fiesta RRC home in seventh at the testing event.

That finishing place earned Al-Kuwari and Clarke four points and helped cement their position at fifth in the overall WRC2 standings as the tour heads to its final round, Wales Rally GB.

The pair have already been in action this week with testing on Wednesday. In the video below Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari gives his verdict after the first run, saying Marshall should be at home in the torrential rain and slippery conditions which has hit the event.

It has been a good year for the pair with a podium place in Australia two rounds ago second only to victory in Argentina earlier in the year as a season highlight.

A first or second place in the season finale at Rally GB this week could potentially jump Al-Kuwari and Clarke into second place. However the race for championship honours was decided in Spain.

Third place at Costa Daurada was sufficient for Al-Kuwari’s fellow Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah and his French co-driver Matthieu Baumet to defend their 2014 crown.
