THE SDLP’s John Coyle has responded to criticism levelled at him for his performance on BBC’s The View last night.

The candidate for the Westminster election was the victim of harsh criticism through social media for his performance in the debate, which also featured Sinn Fein’s Michelle Gildernew, and the UUP’s Tom Elliott.

Referring to what he described as ‘Twitter trolls’, Mr Coyle told the Fermanagh Herald: “Would they have the guts to say it to my face? Do they have the b***s to go on live TV and do what I did?

“I was nervous yes but that was my first time doing it – it’s human nature to be nervous. If you’re not used to doing something, it’s only with practice that you build confidence.”

He said that despite last night’s criticism, he belives that he will win the election.

See this week’s Fermanagh Herald (April 8) for full reaction to last night’s debate.
