THE murals of four revered customers of Campbell’s Bar in Tempo, three of whom have gone to their eternal reward, now adorn one wall of the backyard.
The fourth, Kenny Crawford is alive and well and the pub landlord and landlady, Paul and Diane Campbell said this week they will be joined by others.
“The murals have received such a positive reaction”, Paul explained, “that its got to the stage of staking a claim for a place.”
It was his wife, Diane’s idea and it was then a matter of selecting the first four – the late Francie ‘Shipwreck’ Callaghan, Michael (Mickey) Goodwin and John Higgins, along with Mr Crawford.
“There was no particular reason we picked the four. These guys were all valued customers of ours. In fact, Michael Goodwin had been coming to this pub for over 40 years, long before we got into this place, and we thought we would put up something to remind everybody about them.”
Getting the mural artist, Seamus Bogue, whose family live locally, was easy.
“His father is a customer of ours, and we knew Seamus had been studying art at college. He was he delighted to take on the job. He wanted to do it as an advertisement of his work, and he did it for free.”
Working from photographs of all four, he did the commission in record time and completed it last week.
Paul and Diane Campbell were not the only ones impressed with the result.
“Everybody is delighted with them. There’s a great likeness to the actual photographs, and there’s no bother in pointing them out.”
It is thought that some of the four families have been in to have a look.
In the meantime, the Campbells have ‘a few more people’ in mind for similar treatment.
