Crime boss nephew attacks Enniskillen mother

A NEPHEW of the notorious crime boss and drugs trafficker John Gilligan has been handed a suspended jail sentence after he attacked a woman in her Enniskillen home with a knife.

Edward ‘Ned’ Gilligan, who is an ex-partner of the Enniskillen woman, appeared before Enniskillen Magistrates Court charged with assaulting the woman and her young teenage son, possession of herion and a knife with intent to commit an indictable offence.

Gilligan, whose ganster uncle John Gilligan who was released from prison last November after serving a sentence for his part in the murder of journalist Veronica Guerin in 1996, gave his address as St Ronan’s Park, Clondalkin, Dublin.

The court heard the man had attacked the woman in her home and was brandishing a knife.

The 31-year-old punched her in the ribs and threw her to the ground and held a knife to her throat.

The woman told a national newspaper that she has been forced to go into hiding with her children and claimed that she has been issued with threats from his family, however this has been denied by members of the Gilligan family who contacted this paper.
