SAFE HANDS… Ballinamallard goalkeepers Alvin Rouse and Fergal Murphy

Ballinamallard United goalkeepers Alvin Rouse and Feargal Murphy have joined forces to host the brand new ‘Fundamentals of Goalkeeping’ day course for young keepers of all abilities, boys and girls.

Launched to meet the demand for Goalkeeping courses in the west of the province, the NIFL Premiership goalkeepers will share their skills and experiences to help develop our future stars.

Taking place at Ballinamallard United’s Fisher Park 3G surface on Easter Monday, the day course has been timed to give parents the opportunity to drop their kids off during the Easter holidays.

Alvin Rouse, FAI qualified football coach and goalkeeper, brings a wealth of experience to the course with over 25 years football experience.

The former Barbadian International Goalkeeper who has also played at Sligo Rovers, Monaghan United, Galway United, Longford Town and Dungannon Swifts said; ‘I have been coaching for over five years and have had the pleasure of seeing kids develop their skills and attitude on the pitch.

By spreading our knowledge of goalkeeping, we will not only show the kids the basic principles but also the important factors involved in preparing and recovering after a game. I would encourage as many parents to take advantage of this opportunity for their budding stars.

The kids will be taught the fundamentals of goalkeeping in a fun, friendly and safe environment. They will take home techniques and skills which will help develop them into top keepers of the future while making some friends along the way!”

IFA qualified coach and local goalkeeper, Feargal Murphy, told us; ‘Ballinamallard has gone from strength to strength over the past number of years and promotion to the Premiership was a testament to the development of football within the area. It’s now our turn to offer our knowledge and experiences to the players, in an attempt to progress and develop their skill and ability.’

He added, ‘I joined Ballinamallard at youth level, playing mini-soccer on Saturday mornings before winning the first Brendan Keogh Youth League silverware for the club at U13 level. Having developed through the youth system, playing in three Milk Cups and winning international caps for Northern Ireland at U17 level before turning my focus to Gaelic football, representing Fermanagh at Minor, Under 21 and Senior level. I know the importance of having specialist training in order to develop as a player.’

Keepers of any ability, aged 8+ years, are encouraged to take up this opportunity to improve their goalkeeping skills.

You can pre-book your place on this Goalkeeping course by calling Alvin on 00353894786552 or Feargal on 07857575866.
