No date set for new Devenish

Education Minister John O'Dowd. KT11

Minister of Education John O’Dowd has given no indication when or if a new school at Devenish College will be built on the Tempo Road after being taken to task by a local politician. UUP MLA Tom Elliott tabled an assembly question yesterday asking when on-site works would begin for the proposed new Devenish College in Fermanagh to which the Minister replied:

“The project for Devenish College is being taken forward by the Western Education and Library Board. An Economic Appraisal has been completed and is currently with the Department for consideration.

“It is not possible at this time to say when on-site works will begin for the proposed new Devenish College. Once the Economic Appraisal has been approved the scheme will move forward to the design phase and only when this is complete will a decision be made on the construction of the new school.

“Any decision to move to the construction phase can only be made within the available capital budget for Education. I will continue to petition to secure additional capital funds to address the accommodation difficulties faced by many schools which includes funds for Major New Builds.”
