Toner makes it three in a row at Ned Run

Local athletes had a busy weekend competing in two races in the region. In the Ned 5 miles in Scotstown on Saturday over 600 Runners and Walkers took part.

Denise Toner once again occupied the top of the podium in the Ladies race in a superb 30.21. Eddie Sherry keeps excelling and recorded a superb 33.04.

New members Mary and Trevor Jordan making their debut for the club ran superbly crossing the line in 34.06, Mary finishing 3rd Lady and together they took the fastest Husband and Wife prize. Aoibheann Morgan keeps improving and recorded another great time of 40.30, Seamus Sewell despite spending the last 10 months injured finished in a great time of 42.24. Also putting in an excellent performance was Sinead Maguire who crossed the line in 42.52.

There was a good turnout from the club at the Newbliss 4k on Friday evening which was part of the local festival.

Shane Brady who has been in fine form of late once again had a very good run to finish second in 14:04, Colm Kirke was once again amongst the prizes when finishing 4th in 15:23. Ciaran Mc Caffrey was next home after a very good run finishing 7th in 16:49, Chris Audley was on Ciaran’s heels and was pleased with his performance 8th in 16:55, Gemma Brogan returned to action after getting married to finish 2nd lady in 18:07, Declan Mc Cabe and Frank Hughes making his debut for the club crossed the line together in 19:48, while another debutant Annette Hughes (Frank’s wife) was amongst the prizes as she finished 5th lady in 20:40.

Congratulations to all, and it was great to see such a good turnout of members in these two races over the weekend.

For many the focus will now turn to our club 5k which will take place on Friday 23rd August. Registration will take place from 5.45 at St Tiarnach’s GAA Clubrooms. This is an Athletics Ireland permitted race. There are prizes in the Senior, Masters and Junior Categories. Refreshments served afterwards followed by prize giving. All runners and joggers welcome.
