Devenish will now face Teemore in this weekend’s playoff for the maximum 3 point haul on offer before the Senior Football League starts out a week later.

This game was a tight and nervy encounter played out between two neighbouring sides that know all about each other.

Erne Gaels held sway early on and took a 1-6 to 2-4 interval lead, while it got better for Declan Bonner’s charges as early second half points moved them clear by four.

However, Cian O’Brien hit a two pointer and just 45 seconds later the exciting attacker netted an important second goal. Devenish finished the stronger with points from Cormac Burns, Cian O’Brien (2 Pointer) and Jarlath O’Brien to claim victory.

Both sides started fairly well with Erne Gaels scoring an early goal through Tommy McCaffrey, while Devenish claimed a three pointer from Cian O’Brien.

Points were flowing with both sides hitting scores via Ultan O’Reilly, Oisin Kelm, Lanty Feely and Barry Mulrone all accurate as Devenish led early on, 1-4 to 1-2.

Devenish moved further clear as Jamie Flanagan pointed before Erne Gaels brought themselves right back into the game as Tommy McCaffrey and Seamus Ryder worked well before Ultan O’Reilly palmed the ball to the back of the net, 1-5 to 2-2.

Devenish then pointed before a Seamus Ryder free left it 1-6 to 2-3.

Erne Gaels nudged ahead just before the break as Martin Gilfedder roamed confidently up the field before Tommy McCaffrey landed a score, 1-6 to 2-4 at half time.

Cian O’Brien and Oisin Kelm hit early second half points before Erne Gaels really took over with further scores coming from Oisin Kelm, Seamus Ryder and a Shane Rooney free.

Erne Gaels were guilty of only having two men up which allowed Cian O’Brien to hit a two pointer and amazingly just 45 seconds later O’Brien had the ball in the back of the net after Martin Doherty teed him up, 2-9 to 2-8.

Erne Gaels were rocked but they didn’t panic and points from Oisin Kelm and Seamus Ryder from a free and play gave Erne Gaels the lead again, 2-9 to 2-11.

Devenish substitute Cormac Burns came on to hit a superb score on 56 minutes while it got even better for the home team as Cian O’Brien pointed a two pointer free on 65 minutes before his brother Jarlath moved in to fist over the bar to give Devenish victory.
