Pope Leo XIV addresses the world

POPE Leo XIV, the new leader of the Roman Catholic Church, has blessed a large crowd gathered at St Peter’s Square this evening (Thursday) following his election as pontiff.

Cardinal Robert Prevost has been appointed as the successor to the late Pope Francis who passed  away on Easter Monday (April 21).

Speaking from the balcony overlooking St Peter’s Square, Pope Leo XIV delivered his first address as pontiff, saying ‘May peace be with all of you’.

The 69-year-old, who was made a Cardinal by Pope Francis over two years ago, prayed for and remembered his predecessor in his address.
