Lily and Little Albert Einstein honoured by Council

A YOUNG member of the Fermanagh Harriers Branch of the Pony Club has been honoured at a civic reception hosted by Chair of the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council in Enniskillen Townhall.
The special invitation was in recognition of 11- year-old Lily McBride’s remarkable achievement in winning the GS Equestrian Pony Club Mini Major show jumping competition at the London International Horse Show (LIHS) before Christmas. At the time, she was just 10 years old.
The Mini Major competition offers a unique opportunity for young riders under 12 to compete alongside professional show jumpers at a prestigious FEI 5 Star International Show. The event is a paired relay, where the team with the least number of faults and the fastest time wins.
Only eight young riders qualify from regional competitions across the UK, and Lily earned her spot after qualifying at the Pony Club’s Area 17 showjumping competition in Lurgan last July.
At the international event, Lily was paired with professional show jumper Matt Sampson, a former Pony Club member and a key member of the GB Senior Nations Cup Team. The duo was broadcast live on Horse and Country TV on December 18th, with Lily completing a stunning clear round in just 21.50 seconds. Her performance was described as “jaw-dropping,” and her composure and control were praised as exceptional.
Chairman of the Council, John McClaughry, commended Lily’s impressive achievement, noting that her determination was evident when she introduced herself to Matt and told him, “Don’t let me down.” He also expressed confidence in Lily’s future success, stating that many riders who achieve at the Mini Major go on to further success at the London International Horse Show.
Roisin Cathcart, committee member of the Fermanagh Harriers Branch, also praised Lily’s dedication, calling her success an inspiration to young riders in the club. Frances Rolston Bruce, the District Commissioner of the Branch, invited new members to join and highlighted the club’s commitment to supporting young riders.
The Fermanagh Harriers Branch continues to nurture young talent, and Lily’s story is a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and hard work in achieving greatness.
