MOST people celebrate their birthday with cake and candles, but Adrian Fee from Enniskillen is going the extra mile by running a 5K every day for a year in aid of Action for Children.
After switching from teaching to software engineering, Adrian still felt a strong desire to help children.
“I wanted to find a way to give back,” he said.
“Since I enjoy running and was turning 33, this seemed like the perfect challenge The first few days were tough and my body was sore,” he admits. “But I believe I’ll adjust as the weeks go on.”
A key challenge for Adrian has been running slowly enough to maintain his daily routine.
He said, “I have to consciously slowdown, which is hard because I love pushing myself but it’s necessary to keep this up long-term.”
To avoid boredom he plans to explore different routes around Fermanagh.
“I don’t want to get stuck running the same paths every day, so I’m trying new ones to keep it fresh.”
Adrian has already raised 75 per cent of his £500 goal.
“I’ve been overwhelmed by people’s generosity. I’m close to reaching my goal but now I feel like I can surpass it, which is amazing,” he said.
Adrian’s chosen charity is Action for Children NI. They support vulnerable children and families with services like family support, fostering and housing for at-risk youth.
