Flynn’s car had rear-ended a vehicle in front and he approached officers of his own volition at the scene stating, “I’m over the limit”.

After failing a preliminary breath test he was arrested and while in custody provided an evidential specimen which returned d reading of 102mcg – 67mcg in excess of the legal limit.

He made full admissions during interview. A defence solicitor pointed out the collision was “low-level impact” at around 5mph and damage was minimal.

“The defendant is fully insured so any penny lost by the other party will be addressed.”

It was fully accepted the alcohol reading was very high and there was no excused to be offered.

District Judge Alana McSorley said the reading was an aggravating factor long with the fact there was a collision.

She imposed a fine of £350 and disqualified driving for 15 months.
