Ederney win high-scoring contest

Two early Ederney goals were crucial en route to victory in a high-scoring contest and by the water break, the visitors led 2-7 to 0-1.

They were then able to withstand two Brookeborough goals to forge on to a nine-point interval lead, 4-10 to 3-4.

It might have been closer but for a splendid added-time save by goalkeeper Aine Walsh.

The scoring rate dropped in the second half, with Ederney always holding the lead. 

Leading scorer Dearbhaile McMenamin hit a brace of goals and a string of points and Sarah Britton also found the the net with Katie Teague, Ellie Carrigan and Arlene Daly among those on points target.

Brookeborough scorers were Nuala McManus (1-5), Alicia McDonnell (2-1), Megan Wray (1-0), Aine McCarney (0-2), Poppy O’Brien (0-1), Aisling Woods (0-1).

Brookeborough goalkeeper Karen Foy pulled off a series of great saves to deny further goals concessions while youngster Poppy O’Brien, in her first year at senior level, had an outstanding game at midfield.

Among other prominent Brookeborough performers were wing half forward Nuala McManus and first half defensive sub Naomi McManus who went on to have an excellent game.
