New support hub for Fermanagh’s unpaid carers

A DEDICATED hub has been set up to support Fermanagh’s many selfless unpaid carers.

The Western Trust recently established the Fermanagh Carers Hub, which meets monthly and gives those who are acting in a caring role the chance to take some time out for themselves, and to discuss any issues or concerns they may have.

This month’s meeting is taking place at Fermanagh House in Enniskillen this Thursday, April 24, from 11am to 12.30pm. The hub is a ‘drop-in’ service so no booking is necessary.

The service was set up in the local area following close work between the Trust and multidisciplinary teams at local GP practices, with significant input from local carers.

Trust carers coordinator, Geraldine McLaughlin, encouraged anyone who was acting as an unpaid carer in the Fermanagh area to come along tomorrow.

“If you are looking after a family member or friend who has an illness or a disability we would like to offer you some time out from your caring responsibilities to join our workshop and support group at Fermanagh House,” said Ms McLaughlin.

“Our April workshop focuses on relaxation and self-care awareness. There is no booking required you can drop in on the day. Tea and coffee will be served. We warmly welcome new faces to come along and join the support group.”

Ms McLaughlin added, “Our Carers Support Team provide an opportunity to talk and learn from other carers, try out new activities and referral to other statutory, voluntary and community supports which are available for carers in the local community.”
