Fermanagh musician takes Tullamore by storm

BOHO talent Gary Curley was one of a number of accordion players who collaborated at the hugely successful ‘Tullamore Tradfest’ which attracted hundreds of music fans to the venue.

The school teacher was a headline performer at Coláiste Choilm in O’Moore Street in Offaly where he performed a range of popular songs and tracks, to the delight of many accordion fans.

Mr Curley has established himself as one of the top Irish traditional musicians in Fermanagh, following in the footsteps of his late grandmother, Kathleen Quinn, who was known for her talents.

The Boho man recently appeared on ‘The Repair Show’ on BBC when he got an accordion owned by his grandmother, which he received in 2006, repaired by a team of experts.

“I was thrilled to see the finished restoration,” Mr Curley told the ‘Herald.

“The craftsmanship and attention to detail was incredible. The expert restored my grandmother’s accordion back to its original condition, whilst maintaining the character of the instrument.

“The faded areas, worn from years of my grandmother’s playing, were preserved, which also means a lot to me and my family. It still holds all of its history, but now it’s fully functional again.”

Mr Curley is a regular performer in Enniskillen, where he leads traditional sessions in local bars.
