“The RQIA review pulication has enabled the WHSCT to say that the review supported its own findings that there had been “no patient safety concerns” arising from the suspension of emergency general surgery,” a spokesperson from SOAS said.

“Trust Chief Executive Neil Guckian said it “did not choose to suspend this service lightly” as it “could no longer be safely maintained without permanent consultants”.

“Without doubt, at some stage emergency surgery case will be needed by your extended family members, too many families have now been affected by the direct consequences of the removal of our consultant surgeons.”

The last public meeting that SOAS held in Fermanagh House saw hundreds of locals showing up see the to launch of a discussion paper on a roadmap for the restoration of services at SWAH.

SOAS are urging people to attend the meeting on May 1 to share their voice and “make sure the “temporary” change is not a permanent one”.
