Fermanagh animal sanctuary ‘at full capacity for cats’

A FERMANAGH animal sanctuary has launched an urgent need for help and support after they revealed they’re “at full capacity for cats” as the local struggles with abandoned pets continues.

Major concerns have been raised over the growing number of animals who are being abandoned throughout Fermanagh, with Bright Eyes Animal Sanctuary facing increasing pressure.

“We are currently at full capacity for cats,” a post from the Ballinamallard sanctuary read.

“As kitten season is around the corner, we need help from our supporters to share our posts so we can try and find good homes so we can help cats and kittens who will be needing us soon.”

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals also revealed that an estimated 1,927 pets were abandoned throughout the UK in January, which is 34-per-cent more than in 2024.

It had previously been suggested that the cost-of-living crisis could be a key factor in the rise.

“If you have ever considered adopting a rescue cat now would be the time,” said Bright Eyes.

“Despite being full we need to make it very clear that we will still do our checks and criteria will need passed.

“This does not mean we just hand cats out, we still do our due diligence so they get safe and loving homes.”
