Star Dunbar calls for ‘Line of Duty’ return

FERMANAGH actor Adrian Dunbar has said the cast of BBC police drama ‘Line of Duty’ ‘want it to come back’ as speculation mounts that a new seventh series could be on the way.
Since the BBC thriller concluded in May 2021, fans of the police series have been calling for a new series of ‘Line of Duty’, with some viewers left bewildered following the conclusion of the show.
DSI Ian Buckells, played by actor Nigel Boyle who has links to Fermanagh, was revealed as the corrupt police officer who was known as ‘H’, who was working with Organised Crime Groups.
The ending to ‘Line of Duty’ caused confusion for some fans, with many left wondering if Boyle’s character really was the much-sought after ‘Fourth Man’.
Enniskillen actor Adrian Dunbar, who rose to prominence through his role as ‘Superintendent Ted Hastings’ in BBC’s ‘Line of Duty’, has added to the speculation that the series could be returning.
“We all want it [‘Line of Duty’] to come back,” the 65-year-old actor told ‘The Times’.
“I don’t want to get any older either because we don’t want to be coming back when we’re in a wheelchair. Ted Hastings with a Zimmer frame,” laughed Mr Dunbar.
It has been a busy time of late for the Enniskillen Gaels GAA ambassador who is in the midst of a major run of shows at the Barbican Theatre in London.
The renowned actor is playing a starring role in ‘Kiss Me, Kate’ which is scheduled to run for mammoth 15-weeks at the West End theatre until its final performance on Saturday, September 14.
“I’m so delighted to be returning to the stage this summer to my spiritual home at the Barbican [Theatre] where I started my career at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, especially in this Cole Porter classic with the wonderful creative team including Bart Sher and Stephanie J. Block,” Dunbar told the Daily Mail.
Dunbar also recently led celebrations in Liverpool, in memory of Irish playwright, Samuel Beckett.
The 83-year-old, who died in Paris in December 1989, has strong links to Fermanagh after he went to school at Portora Royal School in Enniskillen.
