Back in October asbestos was identified at an illegal dumping spot in Spring Grove forest near Roslea. Now, more dumping has been discovered just off the main Enniskillen to Kesh Road, just past Lisnarick. The latest pile, which appeared over the weekend, contains “very old” dirty nappies, which could be toxic if not handled properly, as well as children’s toys and household items. 

Cllr John McClaughry said it wasn’t the first time similar dumping had happened in the area, but previously it had been in more isolated areas. This is the first time it has happened on the main road, he said. 

“This looks like somebody had a property rented out and they’ve just gone in and cleaned it out, put the stuff into a lorry, and driven up the road,” he said, adding someone may have been paid to take the waste away then just dumped it instead of disposing of it properly.

Cllr McClaughry said he had been liaising with the Forestry Service on the issue, and a forestry worker had told him the tracks matched those at other dumping sites. It is believed a small lorry is being used to dump the waste. 

Adding someone who is getting paid to take away rubbish from house clearances and instead of disposing the waste is dumping it illegally. 

Cllr McClaughry said it was unfair for the workers who had to clean it up, and for the taxpayer who has to fund the clean up. 

“It is a disgusting mess that someone has to clear up which takes them away from there normal work at additional cost to the public purse. 

“Every penny saved could be put to use sorting out the mess in the health and education budgets,” the councillor pointed out.
