Abandoned safe linked to break-in at filling station

A CROSS-BORDER investigation is underway after a safe believed to have been stolen from Palm Bush Filling Station has been found in east Donegal.
The safe was found cut up and abandoned in a field by a member of the public on the road between Castlederg and Castlefinn. Two trailers were also found at the scene, at least one of which has been stolen in Donegal.
‘Extensive damage’ was caused to Palm Bush Filling Station, on the Pettigo Road outside of Kesh. It is claimed that thieves “broke the door and shutter” to gain entry to the shop in the early hours of Saturday morning.
A spokesman for the Police confirmed detectives in Enniskillen are investigating the incident and are appealing for information. A large quantity of pound coins and cigarettes were stolen.
Speaking to Highland Radio about the suspected link, Gardai Sergeant Siobhan Mollohan said, “Gardai in Letterkenny are appealing for information from anyone who was travelling from Castlederg to Castlefinn on Saturday August 10th between 3.30am and 7.30am.
A member of the public reported a safe which was cut open and abandoned in a field in Gortnamuck, Castlefinn.
“On inspection of the safe, the items seem to relate to a burglary at a Filling Station in Kesh County Fermanagh. The PSNI have informed us that the Palm Bush Filling Station at Kesh was burgled around 3.05am on Saturday August 10th and a vehicle which wore stolen registration plates UUI with four numbers is off interest in that burglary.
“If anyone has any information or travelled between Castlederg and Castlefinn on Saturday morning and seen anyone should get in contact.”
If you think you can assist, please make contact with police via 101.
