ROAD resurfacing, drainage works and footpath improvements are some of the road works listed for Fermanagh in the coming 12 months.
A new report shines a light on the areas set to benefit from investment in road works, with a reduced budget of £140k allocated to local transport and safety measures within the Council area.
DfI Roads list some of the major carriageway improvement projects, where in some instances work has commenced, these include; the Belfast Road at Dolan’s Ring and the Derrylin Road at Derryhowlaght. Residents in the Derryhowlaght area continue to campaign movement on the roadworks which include carriageway widening and road realignment.
A number of roads in the county have also been ear marked for resurfacing. In 2019/20 financial year £6m resurfacing works are planned to take place across the Council area. Last year the over 80km of road was resurfaced at a cost of £7.8m.
£1.2 million has been allocated from the roads recovery fund to target the areas in the most immediate need, the programme of works for this is still being developed.
In the coming year it is also expected that traffic calming and pedestrian works will be carried out. This will involve installation of speed humps on the Teemore Road, Teemore. In 2018/19 1.5km of footway in the Fermanagh area was resurfaced, further footpath improvements are planned in Newtownbutler, Derrygonnelly, Kesh soon.
Providing improvements for cyclists also features with completion of a footway/cycleway listed for Main Street Lisnaskea. Across the county in Derrylin the Belturbet Road and Ballyconnell Roads are listed for renewal of all existing direction and warning signs.
