Police clock van driver doing 97mph on A4

ENNISKILLEN police who clocked a speeding driver travelling at 97mph have been commended.
The speeding van driver was detected by p olice conducting a speed check on the A4 dual carriageway. The main route runs from Enniskillen through to the M1 Motorway and has over taking lanes near Fivemiletown and again near Lisbellaw.
Commenting a PSNI spokesman said, “A van was detected at this speed [97mph] on Wednesday evening by Enniskillen Roads Policing on the A4 Dual Carriageway.
“Most vans fall into the goods vehicles category and should only be travelling up to 60mph on this type of road.”
Police also urged drivers to be mindful of their speed adding, “Please slow down.”
Councillor Sheamus Greene commended police. He said, “This puts other peoples lives at risk when drivers choose to be reckless in this way. Thankfully whoever this was, has been caught. A lot of people have gripes with cameras catching drivers doing a few miles per hour over the speed limit, but when people like this are caught it shows the benefits of these cameras.
“If anyone was involved in an accident at that speed, there’s no hope for them. The roads are so congested, and getting more congested all the time. I would commend them for catching the driver travelling at this speed as they were undoubtedly putting both their life and the lives of other people in danger.”
