Shock at sudden death of popular Monea woman

THE sudden death of Monea woman Mary Meehan has shocked the communities of Botha this week.
On Saturday Mary and her husband Pat were attending a niece’s wedding in the Kilmore Hotel, Cavan, when she took ill.
She was immediately rushed to Cavan General Hospital where she passed away on Monday, surrounded by her loving family.
A close family friend Fr Kevin Duffy described Mary as ‘a very good community woman’.
Fr Duffy now based in Irvinestown said, “She always had a smile on her face.
“She certainly was a very helpful member of the community and was loved by everybody.”
Born in 1947 to Johnny and Rita Melarkey in Newtownbutler Mary had five sisters and four brothers.
She received her early education in St Mary’s Primary School, Newtownbutler and later worked in the cotton factory in Lisnaskea.
She met her husband Pat Meehan in May 1972 at a carnival in Newtownbutler and the couple married in February 1974.
Mary spent a lot of time caring for local children which she classed as her extended family.
She loved Country music and also enjoyed dancing and gardening.
She is survived by her husband Pat and three daughters, Ann Marie, Michelle and Patricia and seven grandchildren.
Following Requiem Mass in the Church of Immaculate Conception in Monea at 11.00 am this morning, Wednesday, the burial is to the adjoining cemetery.
