A 21-year-old man was caught in possession of cannabis after answering the door to police with a joint behind his left ear.
Enniskillen Magistrates Court heard on Monday that police attended an address in Derrylin on December 27th following a 999 call. On arrival, officers heard noise coming from inside the property and the door was eventually answered by Lee Kiely. Police noted the joint behind his left ear and when questioned, Kiely admitted that the cannabis was for his own personal use.
Defence solicitor Myles McManus told the court that his client accepted responsibility and handed the drugs over to police at the earliest opportunity. Mr McManus added that he had explained to Kiely, with an address at Trasna Way in Lisnaskea, the implications of his continued offending.
District Judge Nigel Broderick said that it was clear that Kiely had problems that were bringing him to court again and again.
“I’m going to try to break the cycle,” the judge said as he imposed a 12 month probation order.
