WITH the clocks going back this weekend and the days getting shorter, St Aidan’s High School in Derrylin have received a generous donation of 40 high visibility jackets to ensure their pupils are safe and seen this winter.
JP Corry Building Merchants in Derrylin kindly donated 40 high visibility jackets for the students to use during field trips and school activities.
The donation is particularly timely as the clocks go back an hour on Sunday morning, October 29th at 2am – resulting in an extra hour in bed, but shorter and darker evenings.
Speaking about the donation, St Aidan’s Principal Pat McTeggart was very appreciative and told the Herald,
“We are highlighting safety on the roads, especially since we had the accident last year – We are very conscious of that. It is particularly important to have the jackets when we are going out on field trips and events, we want our students to be visible and to be seen.
“Quite a few students be away out on field trips and activities so these high visibility jackets increase their safety, and it is a great contribution to make.”
Ken and Brian from JP Cory’s presented the school with the jackets last Friday.
The majority of students who attend St Aidan’s travel to school by bus but these jackets are essential for anyone walking or on school business during the winter.
Mr McTeggart continued: “Hopefully now when the students are out and about in their own time they will wearing high visibility jackets and become aware of the importance of being safe and seen on the roads.”
